TextArea HTML Editor – tinyMCE smaller brother
By Chris on December 29, 2008
I like using tinyMCE, I really do. But lately they added to many functionalities – too many I can say.
It’s true, you can disable them, but the package is bigger day by day [actually version by version] – for example, now the tinyMCE package has around 2.8 MB – so its pretty big :|
Today I found a simple & clean solution made by Corpocrat. They offer 2 scripts – one for the BBCode [demo] and one for HTML Markup [demo].
The interface and simple & clean:
total size is around 5KB and you can do enough with it :)
Features:
- No iFrames
- Fast loading and lightweight (code just under 2kb)
- Works in IE and Firefox
- No popup html window for inserting hyperlinks.
- Easy to integrate
- Images [B / I / U / link / …] can be easily changed
- Inserts quick html code
I didn’t had time to look at the code, but if it’s simple to extend you can add nice functionalities to it [eg: add a button for inserting YouTube videos]
